In the scriptures it does say that we the church are the bride of Jesus Christ, wouldn’t that say that God likes to have an intimate relationship with Him as a lover, if He describes us like that. Jesus being a lover is different than a lover like a human lover the first and only love should always be Jesus.

I can see where your coming from, but the song has nothing to do with sexual relations.
Yeah, it probably would freak out some non-believers, but the intended message wouldn’t.
It’s about shedding the human skin and living without sin, or trying to.
It’s about how we can, with God inside of us, lead by example.
When we turn away from God, we’re not letting Him in.

but yeah, fricasee2000, it is a little strange for some guys to hear these kinds of things. and like in the scriptures, when solomon and his wife are being romantic, you’re right. it is about a human sexual relationship. but how does that have anything to do with my relationship with God? it is everything. our relationship with God is an intimate thing, and my relationship with my wife is simply an echo of what i started with Jesus.

I’m sorry, I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. Getting closer to God is what we want to do. The truth is that the Jesus is my “lover” stuff has always skeeved me out a bit. It just gets a bit weird, and I don’t know if that is the way that God wants us to relate to Him.
The reality is that no one person is the “bride” of Christ. I cannot say that “I” am a bride. The Scriptures point to the bride as a group, the church.

That’s the point…I guess what I’m saying is that maybe this is ok for a personal song, but many of these types of song would definitely freak out someone who wasn’t a Christian with its very romantic language and as a guy.
I don’t need to ask Jesus to “take me into his chambers,” as I am never commanded to in the Word.

I’m sorry, but this song/poem is very hard for me to sing as a man. Not to be blasphemous, and I don’t think that the singer intended this, but It sounds like she is talking about having a sexual relationship with Jesus. Can’t do it. I don’t think that God expects me too either based on Scripture. Song of Songs is meant to be about human marriage.
Can anyone see how this type of language freaks out unbelievers (especially men) who come into the church?
